Out of nearly 25 million Africans today living with HIV/AIDS, almost 60 per cent are women, reports the Joint UN Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). In some African countries, more than two-thirds of people with the virus are women. The struggle against HIV/AIDS requires a far greater focus on women. “Unless we empower women not just economically, but with technology that they can initiate and control to protect themselves against infection, we will remain with very limited success. Words of Hope looks at a health woman as the central figure in the fight against HIV. Women play a vital role at home and in the community. Leaving in fear means the whole home and community will stay in fear. Words of Hope focuses on the spiritual lives of women and their families. Through our discipleship classes, women have found hope beyond the diseases, this has brought success in all of our other projects.
The triumph over poverty is in the work of their hands. Through training, they acquire artistic and craft capabilities which enable them to produce exciting products, exhibiting dramatic colors and design variations. Each of us has the chance to reach out to them through these products. As you purchase any of the product or item, you are putting food on their tables, paying school fees, and ultimately giving them an opportunity for a renewed life. Words of Hope through different skills training including arts and crafts, empowers very poor local women and widows. most are living with HIV/AIDS.

Words of Hope, continues to work to bring hope to many families in the southwestern part of Uganda. Over the years the ministry has worked to provide social support counseling, discipleship and sustainable development projects to families of people affected by HIV/AIDS. ONE PERSON ONE VILLAGE ONE DAY AT A TIME. This has been the approach used by words of Hope and over the years God as blessed so many families through your gifts of time and money. with the number of children living as the heads of families and others with no place to be, words of Hope has thought partnership with children centers and orphanages to take care of these children while our first priority id to support these children in their home development family structures, there are those cares where the best option is to send the children to an orphanage.
one of these places is winners orphanage and children center. Located a miters from University Baptist church, the orphanage has 15 kids staying there and with over 50 more kids receiving education at the school. During our Jan Brainerd Baptist Uganda mission team, we were able to send a team led by Adam major tot he orphanage, where a water tank was installed and other supplies made. On his return to the US, Adam shared with his church on the conditions at the orphanage. His wife was moved and with other women who came on the trip thought ways of helping the children at this orphanage. with the poor sleeping conditions and limited food supplies, the women made a donation through Brainerd Baptist church to buy sleeping bags, food and other supplies for the orphanage. Click to view slideshow.
The Administrator, Mr Vincent Kakuru was happy and over joyed as he said, “this is the timing of God, this is God working;” The children were very happy as they sang songs of praise to God and could not wait for the night to come to sleep on the new mattresses. We would like to thank everyone for the sacrifice that was made and

Words of Hope has donated goats to orphans and Widows in Katete Mbarara district.
The goats were handed over by the Words of Hope Director. The beneficiaries are mainly orphans infected and or affected with HIV/Aids whose parents also died of Aids in the area. Each child received a goat aimed at improving their living standards. Handing over the animals, Words of Hope officials urged the beneficiaries’ guardians to look after the goats well in order to get enough production from them.
“It’s very crucial for Words of Hope as an NGO to have donated such goats to several HIV/Aids orphans in this area. Helping HIV/Aids patients is among our first priorities but we also encourage the guardians of those who have got goats to look after them well because that’s when you shall get enough output from them,” I would like to thank our supporters and partners from the U.S.A German, my staff and members of University Baptist church for helping us in this project. The Director said. It is our desire to support you as you continue to show great faith amidst hardships.

Pr Robert Bagonza of the Redeem church hailed Words of Hope for their contribution and urged them to extend their support programmes to other vulnerable people countrywide. “I am very happy to see some of the orphans infected with HIV/Aids getting a donation of goats from Words of Hope. I am optimistic that this would improve their social welfare. I encourage you to cultivate a relationship with God. Make Him your friend think about him. You should reach the level when you wake up in the morning and ask God how you are. Job was so close to God that God was thinking about him all the time. I also encourage Words of Hope to extend its activities in all sectors across the country if possible,” Bagonza urged.

Currently Words of Hope operates in eight Villages across Western Uganda. Words of Hope is works to create a community of disciple believes living for the glory of God According to officials they intend to donate goats to other HIV/Aids orphans in their areas of work.

In many of the developing countries of the world the training facilities available to Christian pastors are woefully inadequate. An emphasis on mass evangelism, and a shortfall in the availability and standard of training for poorer and less educated pastors, impoverishes the church. It is now vital therefore to increase and improve the understanding of Biblical theology and the application of scriptural principles to the whole of daily life.

Through our Equip project we hope to assist and encourage the training of pastors so that, through their preaching of the Word of God, congregations not only become aware of the full implications of being a Christian but are well-grounded in the Faith. Many new churches in Africa are being led by men with little or no formal pastoral training. They are responsible for multiple churches. Few pastors will ever be able to learn at a Bible college or seminary or have access to modern technology for distance learning.

Some Ministers have but a limited understanding of the teaching of God’s Word. As a result they are ill-equipped to disciple believers and their ministries tend to focus on evangelism. Their congregations, therefore, have to survive on a diet of basic evangelistic messages that largely fail to lead them towards real spiritual growth and maturity.

Words of Hope is sponsoring one local pastor each year to go the Baptist seminary in Jinja for Biblical training. We are thrilled to announce that Pastor Begirira Francis of Kibingo Baptist church in Bushenyi is the first pastor to benefit from our Equip project. He is a father of 4 and married to one wife. He has been leading the church for 4 years and we have been part of our several pastors conference in partnership with Brainerd baptist church.

As I read commentaries on this passage, I was struck by the sheer volume of information available and the multitude of views on eschatology that were being presented. One could study these passages and try to figure out the “who-what-where-when-why” of Bible prophecy. It also struck me that a person could read these chapters, and MISS an important point seen in the repetition of the phrases:

    * that the nations may KNOW me (God)
* I will vindicate MY holiness
* I will show my greatness and holiness
* I will make myself KNOWN in the eyes of many nations
* Then they will know that I am the LORD
* My holy name I will make known
* Let not my holy name be profaned
* I show my glory, declares the LORD God
* I will set my glory among the nations
* I will be jealous for my holy name
* And the nations will know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel

Don’t miss the main point of Ezekiel 38-39: The LORD, our God, is high and holy and great and jealous. Everything He does has His glory and name and reknown on the line. Whether He acts in mercy or judgment, He intends that we see His glory, His holiness, His greatness..and that we KNOW Him and that the nations KNOW Him.
Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11

Words of Hope is seeking to develop long term support by establishing herds of cattle among widows and Orphans. We are seeking partners from our communities here in Uganda and everywhere in the world to join our cow project clubs. We are working with a network of 5 communities where we meet widows and Orphans and a few men in the community. Our network of community groups brings together 100 – 200 widows from all ethnic groups. The widows meet together in smaller groups of 15-20 for fellowship and comfort.
The cow project club
The cow project club can be set up by anyone, at any time and any place. You only need to have the heart for supporting women and Orphans. When you register your club with us, then you can start to fundraise for a cow. Different groups like churches, schools, banks, supper- markets, and companies may decide to mobilize their staff to have a cow project club in your place of work.

The provision of cows to those women and orphans:
•	Provides an important source of nutrition through the milk.
•	Allows milk to be sold to pay for daily needs such as education, clothes and health care.
•	Produces manure which can significantly improve crop yields from the exhausted soils.
•	Allows calves to be donated to other widows so that more benefit
•	Provides a focus for the widows groups to support and encourage each other and the community around them.
For its success the project needs grazing land, sheds for shelter, good quality stock for cross breeding as well as native cattle. Here at words of Hope we will work with your club to identify the families and to monitor the progress of the project and provide you with all the reports about the project for your club.
By making best use of their natural resources – soil, crops, animals, and water – people can farm cheaply, effectively, and sustainably. Words of Hope has already provided many families with suitable animals such as goats, Rabbits and Pigs, and provides the training on how to manage and look after the animals.
Families learn natural farming methods to boost crop and vegetable yields. Key to those techniques is the use of composted manure – crucial for families who cannot afford commercial fertilizer. They also learn how to keep their animals healthy and productive, and prevent them from damaging the land. With a good supply of vegetables and milk, eggs or meat to eat and sell, families no longer go hungry, and can even share produce with their neighbours
Words of Hope differentiates itself by promoting more than just food security. It looks at happier families, greater community spirit, more respect between women and men, better health, housing and education, more spiritual fulfilment and increased dignity.
We work with people to help them overcome challenges such as lack of education, low self-confidence, isolation and prejudice. The cow project club programme aims to give people the courage and skills they need to make a success of the agricultural assistance provided, and leave poverty behind for good.
Words of Hope works with some of the poorest people in the community, including children orphaned by AIDS and widows. Most of those are women, as they tend to be the poorest in their communities. Gender awareness training aims to help them understand and fulfil their potential, lifting the whole family’s happiness. By challenging the stigma of disability and HIV, the social development teams want everybody to play their part in their community. Always working through groups, the charity taps into the strong community spirit that characterizes much of African society.
Pass it on principle<ins datetime="2010-11-09T19:56:06+00:00">
Sharing knowledge and skills is a unique aspect of Words of Hope’s work. Each farmer that receives training, seeds or livestock from the charity is asked to ‘pass on’ the benefits to another needy family in the community. This Pass it on principle not only builds stronger communities, it allows Words of Hope to help even more people to develop skills, confidence and self respect. People are happier and healthier, children are educated, homes are improved and communities are more harmonious.
By joining or forming cow projects group for your work mates church friends school or youth group, you will be helping us to reach many families with words of Hope from the word of God and also practical love.

Friday 21st 2010, the van left mbarara at 1pmfor Rugando. We had a great trip as Aloysious did the 15-20 min drive. Along with me was Fiona a Third year medical student AND Anthea an IT draduate both from Mbarara University. Fiona was always asking questions in the van and so it was time for the van to stop. We leave the Van about 1/2km and walk up to the mountains to meet the people. The group was singing and after doing the welcome, we had Anthea give her testimony which letf many including myself wondering how in the world she made it through University. Fiona also gave her testimony.

Time for checking on Piggs. We moved into people’s home to have a look at the piggs. The group is made up of 37 members and they devided themselves into 7 smaller groups and each group got its piglet to look after. Looking at the piggs, all are 1 month from giving the first produce. Everyone was exited and happy. This group has been faithful and so we went back to the meeting for a discipleship class.Click to view slideshow.

One thing we want to thank God for is how He has used the team to meet the people’s needs in the most simple way and how this has opened up opportunites to share the gospel. These families have been transformed through the power of the gospel and we are now happy to see their economic lives too being transformed.

Here are more pictures from that visit on Friday.Click to view slideshow.

Each year, malaria kills more than 1 million people, mostly children, with 350-500 million cases reported worldwide. Approximately 90 percent of all cases of malaria—a preventable disease—are in Africa, where one child in 10 dies before the age of five.

Over the last one monnth, the words of Hope has been working with our community groups to train families in treating mosquito nets and providing a free net to poor familes that can not afford one. The program will run to the end of June and we hope that this will go a long way in preventing this disease. Here are sme picutures from the filed. Who is most vulnerable to contracting malaria?

Malaria most affects people who live, work, and sleep in unscreened houses where mosquitoes can easily enter through open eaves and windows. Malaria kills approximately 1 million young children - under five years of age – per year. Many more suffer from anemia and learning impairments associated with the disease. Pregnant women, their unborn children, and infants are particularly vulnerable to malaria, which is a major cause of maternal mortality and low birth weight.Click to view slideshow.

As always, there are many opportunities for everyone to be involved. one way is by praying and the other way is by talking off a week to volunteer with words of Hope and work on the project. Others who can give financially, you donations are welcome. Jesus is th water of life, remember water does not just save lives, it transforms them

This week has been a great blessing, our people have been able to joing with other church leaders and NGO from Mbarara in a faming God’s way seminah. We are looking forward to our first well-watered gargens. This training has been a great resource as its all about God and His glory in everything we do even in the farming sector. We are excited and ready to start teaching and supporting our village groups in Farming God’s way. This will go a long way in helping to end the fod crisis in homes, its will not years but God works and loves a process, and so we are excited about this whole new approach. From an HIV point of view, we believe that once food supply increase, patients will nolonger be going days without food and will be able to take thier medicine in time. This will improve on the drug adherence. Also as people get enaugh food supply, the tendence of men waning to sleep with women with the promise of buying them food will start to fed and this will reduce the spread of HIV. The discipleship that is involved in the whole approach, will help us at words of Hope and the people we work with to see and appreciate, God in all aspects of our live. This is the reason we are asking everyone to support words of hope in implementing the Farming God’s approach, however and whenever they can. We will beadding more updates from the field

Farming God’s Way has a proven track record of 28 years and was initially designed by Brian Oldreive of Zimbabwe, on the commercial farm Hinton Estate (3,500ha). The farm was ultimately the second largest commercial farm in Zimbabwe. The technology was thereafter made available to surrounding predominantly subsistence farmers. Many success stories abound where farmers who have adhered to the above standards, have had their lives drastically improved throughout the sub-continent. The results were radically improved crop-yields, provision for families, profitability thus resulting in the restoration of the farmer’s self worth.
Farming God’s Way uses Biblical methods to incorporate the principles of management and environmental stewardship in the training sessions, thus achieving outstanding profitability.
Farming God’s Way has been proven with a variety of crops including maize, soyabeans, sorghum, wheat, groundnuts, beans, cowpeas, vegetables & many more.
Farming God’s Way has been proven with a variety of crops including maize, soyabeans, sorghum, wheat, groundnuts, beans, cowpeas, vegetables & many more.
The current maize yields for the continent are between 300 and 600kg/ha, depending on climatic cycles. This barely provides for an adult male let alone a family. The need for annually importing in excess of 21 million tons of grain clearly indicates the “begging bowl” status of the continent, whilst also displaying how poorly the continent is doing at realizing her own potential.
The continent has many negative environmental parameters including droughts, erodable soils, extreme temperatures, infrequent- and sometimes, intense rainfall. Poor peasant farmers are also set back due to inadequate or poor education, life-skills, health care and access to finances. Considering these parameters it is encouraging to know that none of these matters are insurmountable. However there is no quick fix in agriculture and it will require concerted and unified effort from all role players over a sustained time period to change this issue.
Farming God’s Way implements a model of Agriculture through church networks into the continent. We firmly believe that the church is both an accountable & faithful vehicle to roll out this model. Successful implementations have been done in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya & Lesotho. Projects have also recently been launched in northern Namibia, the south of Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Farming God’s Way is a model unlike I have seen throughout my 4 years of BSc (Hons) Agriculture, extensive employment and travelling, because it meets farmers where they are at.
We call it Farming God’s Way as it is the way we believe the church should be gearing itself towards doing things in His way, using His timing and His standards of excellence, without wastage, and with joy

Clare was on a team of Students from spring Arbour University on a cross cultural study trip to Uganda. On the trip, the students spent 3days in Mbarara working with Words of Hope and clare visted a community where she was touched and felf God was laying on her heart to help especially the women who walked miles in serach of clean water. When clare got back home she raised her together with her youth group at the church and the water project was started and finished.

In our recent trip to the refuge camp which is about 2hours drive from Mbarara, we went with a team of members of Brainerd Baptist church and on the way out , we found people lining and waiting for water. As i talked with Rev Ssebajungu Peter, he shared with me the many difficulites the churches have and one need he stressed was clean water. We need a number of projects and today as we visted the katukuru village , the water well was working and in good shape. As i fetched water from the well, my mind went straight to the refuge camp and i saw in my eyes the many people who were lining out wating to draw water from one source.

Am now praying that God will use Words of Hope to construct water points for the refuges in the camp. The Mbarara Baptsit Churches Association has 9 Churches in the refuge camp andi know it will be a big blessing to work with the Association in helping with the water problem in the refuge camp. There are over 2000 refuge families in the Nakivale camp and these come from a number of countries, like Rwanda, Burundi, Somalia and Sudan.

Get Involved

Am asking you to be part of this project by taking off time every day to pray with us for God to open the doors for us through the camp administrators, the churhces, the Association so that we will be given permission to do a water project in the area. Also am asking you to consider making a financial contribution to words of Hope. You can loo at our About us/ Donate to us page for information on how you can send a check to words of Hope.
